                TEXAS

The Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 7 in May 1999 which introduced competition into the Texas retail electricity market. Put into place in 2002.

The following took place:  Incumbent utility was split into two separate entities, an REP (Retail Electric Provider) and a TDSP (Transmission and Distribution Service Provider)

                • REP:  responsible for Billing and Customer Service
                • TDSP:  responsible for Poles and Wires

You CAN NOT Change your TDSP (Utility), no matter which REP you choose, your electricity will still come through the same poles and wires.
